Camp
F.R.E.E. Storms Washington
Just
minutes after the Camp David peace talks broke down on Tuesday, sixty
campers and counselors from camp f.r.e.e.
arrived. they demonstrated less than twenty feet away from a press
conference outside the Hampton Inn in Frederick, MD, where Clinton and
Barak addressed the media before departing from Camp David.
Barak
attempted to approach the children as they chanted “Sh’ma Yisroel...”
but was intercepted by security officers and escorted back to the podium
as cameras panned the action. Yoel, the Chassidishe Monsey Tours
bus driver, said it was a “Kiddush Hashem Befarhesia” like he
had never seen before. The event was covered by Arutz 7 radio as well as
New York media.
the
camp was accompanied by Yaakov Hendrik, recently written up in Beis
Moshiach on his arrest by Palestinian police. He inspired the
children to appreciate the danger of dividing Eretz Yisroel and giving
land to the Palestinians. The campers wholeheartedly agreed to make a
detour on their trip to Washington to show support for the Holy Land and
an undivided Yerushalayim.
Camp
F.R.E.E. is a branch of Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe, an
organization founded by the Rebbe MH”M 27 years ago, has 380 campers
and is located at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva on Ocean Parkway.
The
camp caters to children of little or no Jewish background. The goal is
to instill pride in our Jewish heritage and in the Land of Israel. The
camp program is imbued with Jewish themes and allows the children to
learn in a fun and experiential way. The trip was organized by head
counselors Yechiel Goldstein and Mendy Lezzel, and the counselors.
The
signs were handmade by the children themselves. The trip was sponsored
by Dr. Joseph Frager and
Rabbi S.B. Avtzon.
